Going into the wilderness is a rather difficult in an ordinary wheelchair, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Change few things here and there and you got yourself the perfect off road wheelchair, that can take you almost anywhere.
The most common modification is to remove the normal tires and put on off road tires or balloon tires.

Apparently balloon tires are excellent for use on sandy beaches, which might explain the umbrella accessory on the next photo.

If off road tires and balloon tires isn’t enough, you might want to pull out a ramp and drive up on a movable off road platform.

You can also go for an electric wheelchair with six wheels and true all terrain abilities.

If all else fails, you might want to take on the wilderness in the tank chair – the only off road wheelchair in the world with tank tracks!

2We are looking for a power assisted wheelchair which allows my adult daughter to go ‘offroad’ but which we steer and control. She is blind and unable to use controls. At the moment her current two wheelchairs are either too small or too heavy for off roading.
